Do you ever wonder sitting on a train, or a bus or plane, where people are going? Fellow passengers sitting alongside and opposite you, or hanging grimly onto straps if you’re in a big city at rush hour.Where do they come from ? Why are they here sharing your journey?

Here on this train, unlike the birds above, we all have different destinations. We are on the same train from Perth to Terminal 2, a mixed bag of people each with a story. Sitting alongside me is a young guy, jeans and jacket and small backpack obviously heading for the airport. sitting opposite is an older male swathed in black : hoodie, dark glasses and several black bags. He emanates darkness. Scowling into his phone and flinging back his head, he empties a can of drink into his mouth.
Then there is a complete contrast: a much older man dressed neatly in tailored jeans, white shirt and a short sleeved red sweater. He’s carrying an equally neat bag and sits reading calmly. And he’s just getting up to leave at Bayswater station.
Other passengers include a middle aged woman, she’s tottered to the exit, a few young cool looking, booted young women on computers or phones, a child with his mother who is sitting in front of a pile of luggage – obviously going to the airport.
You get the idea.
And here’s my stop.Terminal 2. Off to Melbourne..
